A Relaxed Festive Wedding in Spring

So where to begin? Mel & Bodge only booked me a few weeks before their big day. Choosing to book a photographer was a last minute decision as neither of them are fans of having their picture taken. The thought of inviting someone to follow them about all day with a camera was clearly a little hard to accept.

Honestly, I completely understand, as I am also quite shy when it comes to being on the other side of the lens. However, this is a once in a life time event & you've invited all the people you love to come share in this crazy day that you have spent countless hours organising & a fair chunk of cash too. So of course you want someone to document the day, why wouldn't you?

In the wise words of Mel "We don’t want set photos or staged line ups, just capturing the energy and day. A keep sake for us."

So thats where I come in. Truth be told it's actually where my better half Millie comes in! Mel & Bodge met Millie on a woodland management course not far from where we live in North Wales. They got chatting & bingo bango I'm suddenly their wedding photographer, thanks Millie...

Needless to say Mel made it clear that they weren't into posed photo's, they just wanted someone to document their special day in a relaxed and un-obtrusive manor. That's music to me ears. I've spent years working as a photojournalist whilst I lived in London. Photojournalism is where my career began. I of course don't mind shooting a few relaxed portraits on the day if requested but I feel these posed images are a real distraction from what really matters & that's you having fun with your guests.

When you view a great reportage image you will be transported back to that time, you will remember the atmosphere around that moment, the tears, the laughter.

So below is a selection of images from my time documenting Mel and Bodges wedding on a farm just outside Cardiff, South Wales.

It was a very hot Spring day starting with some small prep at their bell tent and swiftly moving up to an ancient hill fort for their ceremony before then returning back to the farm for some festive themed fun.
